Don't vote for anyone from either Party if they support the FTAA, because that poses the most dangerous vehicle for harmonizing American dietary supplement laws to outrageously restrictive emerging international standards. The UN's Codex Alimentarius Commission is currently at step 7 (on an 8 step continuum) for creating a global trade standard on vitamins and minerals.
It is imperative that vitamin consumers wishing to preserve their future access to supplements OPPOSE US Codex Delegate Dr. Barbara O.Schneeman backing finalization of a standard for vitamins and minerals. IAHF demands that Codex CEASE all effort to finalize a Codex vitamin standard, and at the VERY LEAST push such efforts BACK from step 7 to step 3. We urge you to send the following form letter below to US Codex Delegate Dr.Schneeman at the FDA, and to cc it to your Senators and Congressman IMMEDIATELY.
Codex could finalize a global trade standard for vitamins and minerals November 1-5th in Germany, then move to ratify it next June in Rome Italy. While there is no direct connection between the EU Food Supplement Directive and Codex, if ANH can get into court prior to next June, we might succeed in generating sufficient POLITICAL opposition to Codex ratifying a finalized standard that Codex might yet back off. In any case, we ALSO have to be concerned about harmonization coming via the FTAA, especially given that last summer Health Canada illegally harmonized Canada to outrageously restrictive Australian regulations, and the MERCOSUR nations in South America are harmonizing to the EU. The US is going to be caught in a pincer movement via harmonization of our laws unless we take immediate action to fight back. IAHF is working closely with allied groups including Life Extension Foundation, Citizens for Health, The American Holistic Health Association, The National Health Freedom Coalition, the National Health Federation, and the Alliance for Natural Health to address this complex emerging threat.
