The Environment Committee are meeting all week, and we believe that thevoting on amendments to this directive will be on the 22nd January.

The Working Group may reach different conclusions, and then the two will have to go through comitology to reach agreement. Unless there are drastic changes to the directive on 22nd, the Working Group are unlikely to disagree substantially.

In practical terms, it will be difficult to change the wording of the directive after 22nd Jan, and I am in Strasbourg the previous week to lobby the relevant MEPs on this issue.

We believe that it is likely that Article 5 will go through as it is currently written, which may not be the best of news for those of us with a free market based on safety.

Ralph- This sure is not good! I am FURIOUSLY trying to get Congressional Oversight over here, and continued to be stonewalled, lied to, ignored, as we ALWAYS have been. After originally BELIEVING we had until MARCH on this, it was quite a SHOCK to receive Hendrik's email yesterday, and I am now wondering what the best thing is to tell the grass roots? We just had this important Gary Null radio show on the Codex/EU Vitamin Issue and had speakers from several countries. I guess I got Martin Forde from Ireland confused with you, sorry, but anyway we really GOT THE WORD OUT on whats going on, and my phone is ringing off the hook here with concerned Americans wanting to know what they can do to help.

As you can see we have had a sudden massive SPIKE in signatures on the petition at http://www.laleva.org/ would it do any good to point this out to the MEPs when you're there to lobby? Shouldn't they allow an EXTENSION, MORE TIME so that consumers all over Europe won't be so grossly DISENFRANCHISED???

This sure is a MADDENING situation. I got email from the FDA on December 22 saying that the comments DEADLINE for submitting written comments for the next Codex meeting of the CCNFSDU will be January 16th, (the CCNFSDU meeting won't be for another ELEVEN MONTHS in Berlin in November of 2001!!!) So it is painfully OBVIOUS that the Cartel is moving as FAST AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE to SCREW US and to SHUT US OUT of the whole process.

I am doing my best to reach Senator Hatch on all of this, because it is PAINFULLY OBVIOUS to me that we are being set up like bowling pins, world wide.

What is the best thing I can do to help you right now? Just keep having as many people as possible world wide sign the La Leva Petition? Should we build a site that has the email addresses of any select MEPs so that they can be getting email from a lot of people all over the world? Would something like that help or hinder your efforts when you go in to lobby them in person?

Talk to me man, how can we help you? This is a Public Health Disaster of Epic proportions shaping up! Hell, I'll call a spade a spade- because this goes BEYOND what I just said- this is GENOCIDE plain and simple!

AMERICANS: You must do the following: Call Congressman Burton's office via 202-225-3121 (Capital Switchboard) and strongly request an oversight hearing on the Codex vitamin issue. Also tell your own Congressman and Senators it is imperative that we have such a hearing IMMEDIATELY, because the citizens of the EU are being set up for GENOCIDE, and we don't want it happening to us HERE via HARMONIZATION of our laws to a rapidly emerging, grossly restrictive, Codex vitamin standards. The EU Vitamin Directive is in the process of being shoved down the throats of the people in Europe, and will be finalized by the end of January. This will cause all 15 EU nations to walk in lockstep with Germany and France. This is a full frontal assault on health freedom world wide by multinational pharmaceutical interests. We need to know if Congress cares, if we can count on Congress at ALL to defend our sovereign laws? The FDA has been IGNORING all Congressional attempts to stop them from setting us up for harmonization!
